Dear Father,
After 4 years of unhappiness at a Summerville Catholic Church, I have finally given up. I have 4 children who hate going to mass. They have no idea what it is like to hear a moving homily, tap their foot to joyous music, and leave mass feeling uplifted. This past Sunday, we arrived just before the pastor processed into the church. We were taken aback when the church doors were closed in our faces. We were not allowed in until the processors had reached the altar and made themselves comfortable. We felt totally unwelcomed, like outcasts. After speaking with the pastor after mass, he said he would not think of changing that protocol because it protects the people who arrived to church on time, that that is what he was told to do in the seminary, and they do the same thing in Protestant churches. After 4 years of listening to him bad mouth other churches from the pulpit, use sarcasm, not discuss anything beyond the first century, and bore us to near tears, I am looking forward to meeting someone who lives and acts more like the Christ I've been told about for my 43 years. I will be attending your church with my children for the next month to see what the Old Catholic Church is all about. We are lost lambs looking for a home.
